Dear Friends of University Games,
As I look at 2026, I find myself optimistic and excited. During 2024 and 2025, we
continued to build both our amazing global team and our product line. We are
ready now to have a very productive 2026, and I look forward to having you be part
of it.
To those of you who have been loyal customers of the John N. Hansen Company
but are new to University Games, we welcome you. Please drop by and introduce
yourselves. Visit us in San Francisco. We can try a burrito in the Mission District,
go to a Giants game, or have a beer at one of our local drinkeries.
As I write this, I don’t know whether Rick Woldenberg and Learning Resources will
be successful in their suit against the US government and whether we will have
tariffs throughout 2026. I really hope that they win, but either way, our plans for
the next five years are set and moving forward. The strategy for University Games
and for our retailers is clear:
First, The Learning Journey and Briarpatch are getting refreshed:
Our two top brands for kids are merging. Going forward The
Learning Journey brand will be used for all our children’s products.
We will retire the Briarpatch brand and focus our social media and
promotions with an eye toward making The Learning Journey the
top-performing global preschool brand.

Next, we shall RETHINK Everything: Our motto for 2026 is to “RETHINK”
how we do everything. You will see this in our new
marketing/promotions strategy, new Vietnamese manufacturing, and
our new focus on games for GEN Z adults.
PARTY-PARTY-PARTY!
And finally, Mixing Fun and Learning: Please check out this catalog and focus on
the new items. Each new game was designed and positioned for the Gen Z and
Millennial younger consumer. More importantly, they all mix Fun and Learning.
That’s what your customer wants!
